Android Phone
Developer
For those writing applications or tweaking code for the new OS
for mobile phones it is important to start at the Android Phone
Developer website.
This is where a developer can download the Android SDK, publish
and distribute applications and contribute to the Android Open
Source Project.
The first step for any Android Phone Developer is to download
and install the Android SDK starter package. For those developing
Eclipse they will need to download and install the Android Development
Tools (ADT) plugin. The AVD Manager will also help Android phone
developers in utilizing the latest documentation.
Once an Android Phone Developer has downloaded the SDK and created
an application it is important to test those applications on several
Android equipped cell phones. It is recommended that developers
purchase a Android Dev Phone 1 from the Android Marketplace for
test phones.
Once the apps have been debugged, it is time to publish and distribute
the applications on the Android Phone website. This can be accomplished
through the Android Marketplace. Both free and paid applications
can be uploaded and downloaded here So far, thousands of both
have made their way into this special location.
In order to be an active part of the community an Android Phone
Developer can also contribute to others. This can be accomplished
by participating in reporting bugs, doing code reviews, using
Gerrit, or play a role as a verifier, approver or project lead.
