Android Google
Phone
The Android Google Phone is a bit of a misnomer in that Google
did not create the actual hardware for the phone but did have
a big hand in creating the Linux open source operating system.
The Android OS was actually created by a company by the same
name which Google bought out in 2005. The Android Google Phone
as some call it first came about in order to get into the mobile
phone advertising market and compete with the then rumored Apple
iPhone.
In October 2008, the Android Google Phone became open source
through the Android Open Source Project. As an open source project
and end-to-end software application anyone could contribute to
the building of the Android Google Phone, as we shall call it
here.
The Android Google Phone however, is really made up of companies
like HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, LG and even Kogan
to name a few. These companies either have an Android Phone on
the market or in development.
These Android Phones also use extension Google applications such
as Gmail, Search, Maps with Street View, Google Talk, Google Calendar
and Google
Goggles.
Android Google Goggles lets you point your cell phone's camera
at a landmark or store and the GPS coordinates and other software
will tell you about the location. You can also point your phone
at a famous painting or statue and Google Goggles will tell you
the history of these objects.
But, the good part of about the Android Google Phone being open
source is that any Android
Phone Developer can add an application to the OS.
As an update to the above, the Google Nexus One phone has been
announced which is using the Android 2.1 operating system. Google
Nexus One Android phone can come unlocked or hooked in with Vodaphone.
The Google Nexus One phone is made mostly by HTC but uses a Qualcomm
Snapdragon processor, has a second microphone and is Teflon coated
to repel dirt. The Nexus One also comes with a 3.5mm headphone
jack for those who want this option.
